Mandarin Shutze: A Chinese Export Life

Who was Philip Shutze? What is Chinese export and why was it popular? Why does an exhibit about an architect feature so many pieces of porcelain and other ceramics?

Find out the answer to these questions and more with Historic House Manager Nikolas Kekel:

Philip Trammel Shutze was born in 1890 and he would live to the age of 92. During his life he was regarded as one of the greatest classical architects and was the designer of the Swan House. Shutze was also a collector; when he died in 1982 Shutze left a very large collection of porcelain and ceramics to the Atlanta History Center.
